The Zero Water Day Partnership, Pennsylvannia University and Fluminense Federal University will hold a series of online events parallel to the on November 18 the COP 29 Thematic Days, for Human Capital / Children and Youth / Health / Education.
Organized under the overarching title of “Delivering health and education for people, planet, peace and prosperity”, the focus of the events is on EDUCATION to form a guiding thread that articulates the stages of the program. The aim is to revisit the status of education through the lens of the 17 SDGs with a focus on SDGs 3 and 4.

The main objectives of the events are to strengthen a common and consistent approach to education for sustainable development and climate action based on the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The program will promote global citizenship education in cross-border, multi-level and sectoral sustainable development with a focus on schools. Also, it will demonstrate that education and professional training must promote planet-centered critical thinking that enables equity in health. Sessions will cover a range of topics, including youth engagement in climate action, the impact of climate change on mountain communities, and health workforce development to address public health and environmental challenges. Highlights include exploring whole-community approaches, training health professionals on climate-health interdependencies, and curriculum development for sustainable mountain guiding.

This event seeks to address climate change, pollution, and biodiversity loss within the oral health sector by uniting global experts to discuss sustainable health solutions. Guided by the UN Sustainable Development Goals and the WHO’s Global Oral Health Action Plan 2023-2030, the conference emphasizes a transdisciplinary approach to dental education and practice. Key sessions will explore preparing dental students and practitioners for future challenges, with discussions on curriculum development and essential competencies for addressing environmental and health crises. A unique aspect of this conference is its focus on reimagining oral health as an integral part of overall well-being and planetary health.

Building on the success of previous conferences, this event will cover sustainable practices in oral health care, regulatory frameworks, and the role of innovation for developing more sustainable health products and practices.
Workshops and webinars following the conference will build momentum toward COP 30 in Belem, Brazil, in 2025, furthering collaboration to promote sustainable development across the health sector. This initiative marks a vital step toward advancing oral health practices that contribute to healthier individuals and communities worldwide.
A highlight of this event will be the illumination of Rio de Janeiro’s iconic Christ the Redeemer statue in special colors to raise awareness of sustainability in the health sector. This powerful symbolic act reinforces a global commitment to a healthier, more sustainable future for all. The lighting of Christ the Redeemer with the primary colors of the sustainability tripod exposes to society the urgency of including health in the debate agenda of the climate crisis and highlight the social and environmental determinants of health.
